In the Episcopal Church, our Sunday services are taken from The Book of Common Prayer and include the reading of scripture, a sermon based upon the lectionary readings, prayers of the people, and a celebration of the Eucharist. The liturgy involves both lay and clergy participation, and it is intended to encourage and send us into the world to serve our neighbors. We offer a broad worship style that encompasses both tradition and innovation.
At Holy Cross we hold two Sunday morning worship services.
- 8:15 a.m. service — simple, contemplative, spoken service of Holy Eucharist, Rite II.
- 10:30 a.m. service — includes a variety of music styles including traditional hymns and anthems, contemporary spiritual and folk songs, and adult and children’s choir offerings.
Adult Formation and Children’s Sunday School is offered in between the services, beginning at 9:15.
Children’s Chapel is offered during the service. Children step out for an abbreviated, age-appropriate interactive worship experience and then join their families for communion.
We also have occasion Sunday evening worship services. Please check the calendar for dates.
Our Nursery is professionally staffed and equipped with a silent pager system. The Nursery accepts children ages 0-4 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. so that adults may attend our adult formation held between the services, and worship at 10:30.
We invite you to join us for our coffee hour after each service so that we may get to know you and answer any questions you might have about the Church of the Holy Cross and all it offers!
It is our joy and delight to celebrate and bless a wedding at Holy Cross. If you are a part of this community of faith and are considering marriage, please contact the office to schedule a meeting with the clergy and obtain a copy of the Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage.
Because we commit to supporting those who enter into marriage, Holy Cross does not rent out its space for weddings.
At Holy Cross we take seriously our responsibility as Christians to walk beside those who seek to become baptized. We offer a class for those adults or parents of young children prior to baptism, which explains not only its roots in tradition but also its meaning for becoming a part of the Holy Cross community.
Confirmation classes are offered seasonally prior to the visitation of the Bishop for those teens and adults seeking to confirm their baptismal promises and become a member of the Episcopal Church. We provide history and practices of the Episcopal Church and an opportunity to explore your unique gifts and calling to service. Please contact the office if you are interested in our Inquirer’s or confirmation class and intend to be confirmed or received from another tradition.
Funerals & Memorial Services
In the Christian tradition, the church celebrates the burial office as an Easter liturgy. We believe that our loved ones have moved on to greater life. We provide funeral services to any and all who request them and can provide a space for a funeral reception. Our funeral coordinator will share the variety of options available for the service, and you will meet with clergy to plan a personalized ceremony. For more information about funerals, please contact the office.
