Jesus Goes to the Movies: What is Christmas For?

Event details

A stereotypical Christmas movie follows a hard-hearted hero who becomes a better, more generous person when others help them rediscover “the true meaning of Christmas.” What exactly is that? What is the meaning of Christmas? What is God doing in Jesus’s birth? And what is the Church doing celebrating it? What is Christmas for?

Join Rev. Kevin online Tuesday nights in Advent as we turn to the Scriptures and to movies that have nothing (?) to do with religion for some answers. Each Tuesday night in Advent, we’ll pray, read Scripture, watch a short scene from a beloved holiday classic, discuss, and then pray more. We’ve got several Santas, a couple of Christmas Carols, and one good Grinch. There’s a Wonderful Life, a Nightmare, and a Miracle. We’ve got Home Alone and Die Hard. They all get their due. There’s no homework, and you don’t need to have seen the movies beforehand to join in the fun. Spoilers abound. Christ our Savior is born!
