Dinner & a Show “Cooked: Survival by Zip Code”

Friday, July 12, 6:00 pm

Join us for a viewing of the award-winning documentary “Cooked: Survival by Zip Code,” a look at the worst heat disaster in U.S. history, in 1995 in Chicago, when 739 residents—mostly elderly and black—died over one week. The film links the deadly heat wave’s devastation back to the man-made disaster of structural racism, shining a light on the issues of poverty, race, class, and education that underlie how natural disasters take lives. This special screening is promoted by the Diocese of Virginia Creation Care Committee and sponsored by Interfaith Power & Light.

A light dinner will be served, and an alternative, kid-friendly movie will be shown in the Upper Room. Invite your (socially-conscious) friends!

Please RSVP by emailing the parish office (office@holycrossepiscopal.org) by July 10 so that we have enough food for everyone.
