A Statement from the Bishops of Virginia about the Charlottesville Tragedy

Faith and Pop Culture: Jesus Goes to the Movies!

Sundays, August 27 & September 3

Who was Jesus? And who is Jesus for us? Movies—from Jesus Christ Superstar to The Passion of the Christ—have a lot to say about The Greatest Story Ever Told. Even when movies aren’t trying to depict the Gospels, Christ has a way of showing up—as a talking lion, a cyberpunk savior, or an alien superhero. What does Hollywood make of Jesus? Is Jesus a man? A superhero? The Son of God? A convenient symbol? And what might all this mean for those of us who seek and serve Christ? How do you tell the story of Jesus Christ? Join intern Kevin Laskowski in the Parish Pall at 9 a.m. Aug. 27 and Sept. 3 to watch brief clips from classic biblical epics and recent comic-book blockbusters and discuss.

Leaving a Legacy

Sunday, August 20

Planned giving helps you make high impact gifts to the mission, ministry, and church you love! Join Julie Simonton, our diocesan officer for congregational development and stewardship, on Sunday August 20 at 9:00 a.m. to hear how you might make a gift you did not know you could make using assets you had not thought of using.

OWLS on Thursday, September 7

The HC OWLS (Older, Wiser and Laughing Souls) will meet on Thursday, September 7th at 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall. Please join us for a brown bag lunch at 11:30 to be followed by a travel talk by parishioner Jennifer Santley. She will talk about her recent trip to Normandy, Brittany and Paris. Come and enjoy some fun and fellowship! Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, drinks and cookies will be available.

Parish Lunch Line

On the third Sunday of every month, we gather in the parish kitchen to make sandwiches for clients of Northern Virginia Family Service's Bailey's Crossroads shelter. After our 10:00 a.m. service, we work for about 45 minutes to assemble and package sandwiches with the supplies we have on hand. All are welcome to come help out for as much time as you can spare. We are always accepting donations of lunch meat, cheese, and bread.
