Response to Occurence at Holy Cross
We have been informed by Fairfax County police that last night, an assault took place on Holy Cross property. One of our homeless neighbors was attacked outside the building at about 1:10 a.m.
We are deeply saddened that this took place and ask that you pray for the victim. She is being treated at an area hospital and our understanding is that she is expected to recover from her injuries.
There is no evidence at this time that the attackers tried to enter the building or did any damage to church property. The Montessori school was not open at the time of the attack, and no staff of the school or the church were present. The school is closed today to allow police time to investigate.
In light of the recent events at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City, we understand that these events may cause some safety concerns, and that the media may take an interest in this case and perhaps contact staff and parishioners for information. All questions should be referred to the Fairfax County Police.
It is our mission at Holy Cross to provide sanctuary and help those in need, and we will continue to reach out to our homeless neighbors, offering hospitality and care as we are able. We ask that you continue to lift up all those in need in your prayers as we share God's love with the world.
