Lenten Offerings

Ash Wednesday Worship—February 14

There will be Holy Eucharist services with optional imposition of ashes at 7:00 a.m., 12 Noon, and 7:30 p.m. Please join us for any or all of these services to make a start to this beautiful holy season.

Ash Wednesday for Children—Symbols of Lent

Join us on Ash Wednesday at 6:30 pm for an interactive experience for children and families. We will explore the symbols of Lent like Water, Oil, Clay, Salt and Ashes. “Alleluia” butterflies will also be available to color and decorate and they will be kept and “released” at Easter!

Lent Soup Supper & Study

This year, we will journey through Lent together on Wednesday evenings starting on February 21. The four-week sessions will all begin with a simple supper of soup, salad, and bread. We will gather in the Parish Hall for dinner from 6:30-7:00 p.m. followed by worship from 7:00-7:15, and the program from 7:15-8:30. Read about the two tracks for 2018.

Lenten meditations

“Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John” is a six-week journey into deeper intimacy with God through praying with the words of John the Evangelist. Prayer journals are available in the Upper Room. Take one home and set aside a few minutes every day to reflect. Journals and additional resources are also available online here.

Lenten Quiet Day

Join our seminarian Brandon McGinnis on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9:00 am -12:00 pm for an intentional time of quietness and stillness. Following an opening meditation, we will explore various forms of silent, devotional prayer at stations throughout the sanctuary space. Cut through the noisy busyness of life using Anglican prayer beads, engaging in Eucharistic meditation, reading icons, or simply sitting in silence in the presence of God.

OWLS March Gathering

The HC OWLS (Older, Wiser and Laughing Souls) will meet on Thursday, March 1 at 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall for a brown bag lunch. Please join us for fellowship and fun! We will be discussing our favorite movies (please bring your list of a few favorites) and talk about producing a cookbook for the OWLS so bring along a favorite recipe to share. Ron will have some free cookbooks available for anyone who wants one. Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, drinks and cookies will be available also.

Parish Lunch Line

On the third Sunday of every month, we gather in the parish kitchen to make sandwiches for clients of Northern Virginia Family Service's Bailey's Crossroads shelter. After our 10:30 a.m. service, we work for about 45 minutes to assemble and package sandwiches with the supplies we have on hand. All are welcome to come help out for as much time as you can spare. We are always accepting donations of lunch meat, cheese, and bread.
